Moving forward with Lab Grown

I wanted to get my Magpies opinion on the idea of Lab Grown stones.

In the past I've really not been a fan of Lab created gems of any kind, as the quality was to be honest always second rate.

The latest innovations in this field; over even the last five years, are now yielding some of the highest quality, loop clean gems I've ever seen. When coupled with the best lapidary skills we are now getting the most exquisite stones, at fractions of the cost of their naturally mined cousins.

My issue at the moment is that Natural stones (all types) have become so expensive to source, and even more so when you want to achieve the higher qualities/clarities that I try to present to my Magpies on this page.

The cost for good quality, eye clean Green Tourmaline, as a for instance, has now grown to such high levels that the dealers abroad are starting to sell off all their lower quality goods at the same price I was paying for the higher quality good just last year!!

So, going forward, I wanted to get an idea of the feel for this new market by putting it to my Sparkly Army.

The addition of Lab Grown coloured stones (as a start) would make H.G pieces way more accessible to a greater number of you going forwards. And as a result of the high quality nature, cut, and finish of these new stones, it would still make them relevant for the H.G handmade quality of craftsmanship that gets lovingly put into your commissioned pieces.

I will see what you all think, and can then get some stones in to at least show you. We can go from there I guess.

Kindest Regards

Your H.G

P.s

The video shows a 16ct Lab grown Ruby (created through flame fusion), which measures an astounding 14.1 x 14.1 x 9.9mm, as a custom Cushion-cut.

The stone has a flawless clarity rating. Something that would cost tens of if not hundreds of thousands as a natural stone, if you could even find one!

This stone would be just £770+Vat!
